The Chronicles of Narnia
For as long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed the Narnia series—both the books and the movies. I vividly recall watching each movie in the theaters. Oh the excitement and anticipation which came with seeing the movies after my mom read the books to my younger brother and me as children! My cousins, brother, and I watched Prince Caspian on repeat and we even pretended to be the characters. Any time I watch The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe (which also happens to be one of my favorite movies), I get emotional when Peter shouts, “for Narnia! And for Aslan!” It’s so powerful. The music is fantastic and the cinematography is awesome. I eagerly awaited Aslan showing up in all three films.
I reread the books this year and, while I enjoyed them as a child, I got even more out of them now than I did about 17 years ago. The final chapter in The Last Battle really did me in—especially the very last paragraph. A longing pulled at me as I read about the New Narnia.
Those books are for people of any age. If you haven’t read them—or even The Hobbit or Lord of the Rings, you should! They are some of the best books I have ever read.
One of my favorite quotes by C.S. Lewis - “If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can satisfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.”
